Hip Revision Featuring the ZMR® Hip System Tapered Distal Stem

On September 3rd at 7:00pm EDT Zimmer, Inc. will present an ORLive webcast of a hip revision surgery using the ZMR Hip system featuring the Tapered distal stem prosthesis. This prosthesis achieves secure fixation in the femur through the use of splines and a tapered geometry in conjunction with a roughened Tivanium® Alloy surface.  The tapered stem is designed to wedge into the femoral canal, transferring axial and bending forces, while the splines are press-fit into the endosteal bone to provide rotational stability.

Scott Sporer, MD Orthopedic Surgeon at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield Illinois will perform the live procedure while Todd Sekundiak, MD  Orthopedic Surgeon, Creighton University Hospital moderates. “I usually use this device when there is a significant amount of bone loss. The ease of insertion reduces intraoperative complications and because the implant is less rigid, it aids in bone remodeling,” says Dr. Sporer. “Also, for optimal stem placement  you need distal stabililty. With a modular stem you can achieve this and then address other variables such as leg length and anitversion, separately.”  Viewers will be able to send live email to doctors during the procedure.
