Laparo-Endoscopic Single-Site (LESS) Procedure

"The really big part of what less surgery is all about, is no scar, and as we have been able to adapt this we continue to refine our techniques, but for us what drives us in this regard is no scar, because we feel that we can do this with no scar, then the other things will come along with it, quicker return to functional activities, less pain, shorter hospital stays," says Dr. Alexander Rosemurgy, Professor of Surgery & Medicine, USF College of Medicine.

Dr. Alexander Rosemurgy and Dr. Sharona Ross perform a gall-bladder removal using an advanced minimally invasive procedure known as LESS.  Laparoscopic Endoscopic Single-Site Surgery requires one incision, typically in the belly button where multiple laparoscopic instruments are inserted.  The procedure leaves virtually no scar and reduces trauma to the body.  Physicians say fewer incisions mean quicker recovery time, less pain, and less risk for bleeding and infections.
