da Vinci® S™ Coronary Revascularization
On Tuesday, February 12 at 6 p.m. Christine McCarty, MD, chair of cardiac surgery at PinnacleHealth, will perform minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery, also known as da Vinci® coronary revascularization, at the PinnacleHealth Community Campus. Since 2006, Dr. McCarty has performed more than 100 surgeries with the assistance of the da Vinci® S™ surgical system, reducing chance of infection, shortening hospital stay and improving recovery time.
"Airing robotic heart surgery online showcases our state-of-the-art technology and unique surgical technique and serves as another visible example of the high level of quality of care available at PinnacleHealth," says Dr. McCarty.
Robotic-assisted minimally invasive cardiac procedures avoid the drawbacks of traditional heart surgery, including blood loss, pain and scarring that typically result from cutting through the breastbone and opening the ribs. In addition, The da Vinci® S™ Surgical System allows surgeons to:
- View the surgical field more clearly, reducing blood loss because small blood vessels are recognized and controlled more easily
- Have a full range of motion, mimicking the twist of the human wrist
- Work from all different angles
- Eliminate natural hand tremors
- Simultaneously view the surgical field, electronic diagnostic images and the operating room
