Dr. Wohlgemuth joined Norfolk Surgical Group in 1988. He began performing laparoscopic surgery in 1991 and gained considerable experience in a variety of basic and advanced laparoscopic procedures. In 2001 Dr. George Hoffman and Dr. Wohlgemuth began performing laparoscopic gastric bypasses. To date the group has performed approximately 1,400 laparoscopic bariatric cases with Dr. Wohlgemuth being involved in about two third of these cases as the primary surgeon or first assistant.

Dr. Wohlgemuth is the medical director of Sentara Bariatric and is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery as well as a member of the American College of Surgeons Bariatric Advisory Committee. He is currently involved in numerous research projects dealing with bariatric surgery and has presently his research at numerous national medical meetings.
