Associate Professor of Surgery / Director, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery
David S. Tichansky, MD, FACS, received his medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. His postgraduate training began at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he completed his internship and residency in the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Tichansky completed fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. At the University of Tennessee (UT) Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, he served as Associate Professor of Surgery, Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Co-Director of the Weight Management Center at Methodist University Hospital, Co-Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at the Regional Medical Center, Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at UT, and as a member of the Board of Directors for UT Medical Group. 

Dr. Tichansky is the Chair of the Membership Committee of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and serves on the National Curriculum and Education Committee of the Fellowship Council. He has performed extensive research in the fields of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery to improve patient safety and care, and has authored or co-authored more than 70 peer-reviewed articles, five book chapters and more than 100 scientific presentations.
