Dr. Allan Stewart received his medical degree the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Stewart received his Postgraduate training in General Surgery from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery Training at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Stewart is the five time recipient of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Annual Surgical Scholar Award, the 1999 AHA Vivian Thomas Young Investigator Award, the 2000 Institute of Human Gene Therapy Young Investigator Award, and the 2000 AATS C. Walton Lillehei Young Investigator Award.  He has published over 40 original papers and book chapters, and lectured throughout the world on aortic surgery.

Dr. Stewart’s research interests areGene Therapy for Heart Failure, Advanced Circulatory Management During Complex Aortic Surgery, Valve Sparing Root Replacement,  Transcatheter Valve Replacement, and Endografting of the Thoracic Aorta.  He specializes in aortic valve repair, where he has accumulated one of the largest series in the United States. He is currently the Director of Thoracic Aortic Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center.
