Carl H. Snyderman, MD, is co-director of the Center for Cranial Base Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and a professor in the departments of Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Indiana University, Bloomington, and his medical degree in 1982 from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed a residency in otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine under Eugene Myers, MD, in 1987 and was the institution’s first fellow in cranial base surgery under the tutelage of Ivo Janecka, MD, from 1987–1989. At the same time, he was a recipient of a Clinical Oncology Career Development Award from the American Cancer Society for research in cancer immunology. Subsequently, he received a FIRST Award from the National Cancer Institute for studies of the role of prostaglandins in cancer immunology. Dr. Snyderman has remained on staff at UPMC and has maintained a clinical focus in cranial base surgery.

Dr. Snyderman has received multiple awards, including a Presidential Citation from the American Head and Neck Society for his pioneering work in cranial base surgery, and a Distinguished Service Award from the Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Foundation for his many educational activities. He has authored more than100 peer-reviewed articles, and presents regularly at national and international meetings, and is recognized as one of the best doctors in America by multiple consumer groups. With his colleagues at UPMC, Dr. Snyderman is altering the practice of cranial base surgery with the introduction of new endoscopic approaches for the treatment of cranial base pathology.
