Dr. Smith is the clinical director of The Heart Center and the chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery at Akron Children’s Hospital. He received his medical degree and Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, and completed his surgery internship and residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Dr. Smith then completed his residency in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the University of Minnesota, and his fellowship in pediatric cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Smith has been in practice since 1994.
