Harlan Selesnick, M.D., is a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a focus on arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine and knee-joint replacement surgery. Dr. Selesnick has been the team physician for the Miami Heat since 1988, and he is also the team physician for Miami Jai Alai, Dania Jai Alai and Miami-Dade College. He also serves as a team physician for the Sony Ericsson International Players Tennis Championships. For the Miami Herald, Dr. Selesnick writes the biweekly "Jock Doc" question-and-answer column. He is a past president of the NBA Team Physician Society, a post he held from 1999 to 2001. Dr. Selesnick was elected NBA Team Physician of the Year for the 2002-2003 season. He was named team physician for the National Basketball Association All-Star game in 1990, 2000 and 2001. Dr. Selesnick was also the team physician for the USA Dream Team for the World Basketball Championship in Greece in 1998 and was the team physician for the gold medalist USA Basketball Team at the Olympics in Australia in 2000. Dr. Selesnick was an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at the University of Miami from 1985 to 1997. He received his medical degree through a six-year honors program in medical education at Northwestern University. He completed his residency at the Michael Reese Medical Center. Dr. Selesnick has published more than 60 articles about arthroscopy, sports medicine and orthopedic surgery, and he has lectured nationally and internationally on those topics. He is currently the director of the ACGME-accredited Miami Sports Medicine Fellowship.
