Dr. Harlan Rust earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1994 after receiving his B.A. from Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut in 1991. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Wright-Patterson Medical Center at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio in 2001. Dr. Rust completed a Nephrology Fellowship Program from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2006.
Dr. Rust is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. As a Nephrologist, Dr. Rust is an integral part of the kidney transplant team of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in evaluating potential living kidney donors.
As an officer in the United States Air Force, Dr. Rust managed a large panel of complex internal medicine patients, staffed resident teams on general medicine wards and served as a Preceptor for student and resident clinics. Deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Spring 2002, Dr. Rust provided general medicine care and intensive care to U.S. and allied troops.
Dr. Rust has been in private practice with Nephrology Associates of Tidewater since 2006. Additionally, he serves as a Clinical Instructor in Nephrology at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. Professional associations to which Dr. Rust is a member are: the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Nephrology , the National Kidney Foundation and the Renal Physicians Association.
