Ignacio Rua, M.D., is medical director of vascular surgery at Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute and has served as section chief of Baptist Hospital’s vascular surgery section. He has extensive experience in general and vascular surgery.

Dr. Rua received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He completed his residency training in general surgery at Strong Memorial in Rochester, N.Y., and joined the Surgical Group of Miami in 1995. He completed specialty training in hepatic resection and liver transplantation surgery in Madrid, Spain, as well as a fellowship in endovascular medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

Board-certified in general and vascular surgery, Dr. Rua is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is active in many societies of general and vascular surgery. He has authored several publications, including a textbook on pulmonary complications of aortic surgery.
