Assistant Professor of Surgery / Surgeon, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery
Bernadette C. Profeta, MD, received her doctor of medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She then completed a general surgical internship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she was honored with the Goracci Teaching Award for Chief Resident, the Chief Resident Hands of a Surgeon Award and a Medical Student Teaching Award.

Dr. Profeta completed fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in Richmond. While at MCV, she was also an Instructor in Surgery, teaching minimally invasive mini-fellowship courses focusing on bariatrics, colectomy and ventral hernia repair. Before returning to Jefferson University Hospital, Dr. Profeta most recently served as a general and laparoscopic surgeon at the Frankford Health System, Philadelphia.
 
Dr. Profeta’s areas of expertise include advanced laparoscopic forgut, colon, solid organ, and bariatric procedures as well as general surgery. She has authored a number of abstracts and publications on laparoscopic gastric bypass and bariatric surgery.
