Walter Medlin, MD, FACS, joined the general surgery department at the Duluth Clinic in 2005. Since then, he has focused on weight loss surgery, becoming the director of the Duluth Clinic Weight Management Program in 2006. The program began offering Lap Band surgery in March of 2006.
The Duluth Clinic Weight Management Program includes both surgical and medical (non-surgical) options for patients who want to lose weight under the guidance of a team of health care professionals. The comprehensive program also offers patient education and support.
Dr. Medlin graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1993. He completed his surgical internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. His general surgery residency took place at Butterworth Hospital/ Michigan State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Dr. Medlin practiced with physician groups in Yakima, Washington, and Brunswick, Maine, before coming to Duluth. He has also completed specialized training in advanced laparoscopic techniques and bariatric surgery through fellowship programs in New York and Pittsburgh. “We’re here to work with each patient’s individual needs,” Dr. Medlin says. “We want patients to feel they are in a safe, comfortable environment to address their weight loss concerns.”
