Dr. Marema is one of the most respected physicians in bariatric medicine. When ObesityHelp magazine released its top 100 "Surgeon Rankings...Lives Transformed Score" (July 2003), derived from information collected from over 150,000 bariatric patients, Dr. Marema was listed as #1. In 2002, Dr. Marema performed more bariatric procedures than any other surgeon in the state of Florida, twice as many as the number two surgeon.

Dr. Robert T. Marema completed his professional training in General Surgery and became a Board Certified Diplomat in that field in 1983. His extensive experience in abdominal surgery led to adoption of the young field of surgery for the Relief of Obesity. This specialty interest has been further developed through his association with the American Society of Bariatric Surgery. This association with the fellow surgeons from many communities world wide allows him to remain aware of new developments in the science of this special surgery. It also affords Dr. Marema the opportunity of contributing his experience to further the development of safe and effective practice in collaboration with his colleagues.

Dr. Marema was also a member of the International Bariatric Surgery Registry (IBSR) which provides a comparative analysis of Bariatric Surgeons' outcomes worldwide.
