Joseph Lamelas, MD is a board certified cardiac and thoracic surgeon practicing in Miami, Florida. A leading authority in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, Dr. Lamelas has performed more than 8,000 open-heart procedures. He is involved in training surgeons across the United States and South America in advanced and innovative surgical techniques. He has also participated in international operative surgical symposia, as well as lectured nationally and internationally.
Dr. Lamelas completed his training in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the State University of New York, Health Science Center of New York in 1990. He has published numerous articles and presented extensively on cardiac surgery. He is the past President of the Cuban Surgical Society (1999-2002), a council member of the Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, America College of Surgeons. He has consistently had one of the lowest morbidities and mortalities in the state of Florida.
He is the senior partner in his private practice group – “Lamelas and Associates”. The group operates/practices at 5 Miami area hospitals – Baptist Hospital of Miami, Mercy Hospital of Miami, Kendall Regional Medical Center, South Miami Hospital and Cedars Medical Center of Miami.
