C. Thomas Hitchcock, MD, FACS, is a founding member of the Bariatric Center of Kansas City. He is a Board Certified General Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery. He combines skills that he uses daily in his practice as a bariatric and general surgeon to perform the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and the LapBand® gastric banding procedure at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Hitchcock received specialized training in laparoscopic weight loss surgery in the fall of 2002 in San Diego, Calif. from Drs. Wittgrove and Clark, founders of the laparoscopic technique for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. He also trained recently with the InaMed Corporation, developer of the LapBand® system, and is beginning a LapBand® practice as well.
Hitchcock completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. He graduated from medical school and completed his surgical residency at the Kansas University Medical Center. He then completed a surgical externship at the University of California, San Francisco.
Hitchcock has been directly involved with surgical residency training for more than 25 years as an assistant clinical professor at the Kansas University Medical Center Department of Surgery. He has served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
He has performed more than 250 Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypasses, and 100 LapBand procedures as well. Hitchcock is very excited by the completely integrated weight loss surgery program now available through the Bariatric Center of Kansas City.
