Dr. Gannon completed his residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and finished a fellowship in total joint replacement of the hip and knee from Dr. Tom Mallory at Ohio State University. He began his practice in Bozeman, Montana, in 1989. Previously he performed traditional posterior approach total hip replacements for the first 15 years of practice. He began using the direct anterior approach in 2005, initially using a specialized traction table, and more recently a standard operating room table.
Dr. Gannon currently trains other surgeons on the Anterior Total Hip Replacement Approach using the Tri-Lock Bone Preservation Stem from DePuy. Dr. Gannon is a member of the design team of surgeons who developed the stem, which launched earlier this year.
