Dr. Luis J. Castro is originally from Los Angeles and joined the group as a cardiac surgeon in 1998. His areas of special interest and expertise include complex coronary artery procedures (both on and "off-pump"), as well as aortic valve reconstruction. He continues to incorporate the application of new technology to achieve outstanding results at or better than the state and national averages. His innovative strategies for aortic root reconstruction have been presented nationally and published in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. He and Dr. Gaudiani continue to perform the majority aortic and mitral valve operations through limited incisions.
Dr. Castro graduated from Stanford Medical School and completed his surgical training at both Stanford and the University of Southern California. He is board certified by and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also fluent in Spanish.
