Donna A. Caniano, MD, is the H. William Clatworthy, Jr. Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus, Ohio. She is the Surgeon-in-Chief of Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Chief of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Program Director of the residency in pediatric surgery. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Pediatric Surgery and an Editorial Consultant for Pediatric Surgery International. Dr. Caniano served on the Executive Committee of the Section on Surgery of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery, and was Secretary of the American Pediatric Surgical Association from 2003-2006. She was a member of the Committee on Bioethics of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has been a funded researcher in the field of bioethics. She is a past president of the medical staff of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Her area of scholarly interest is in Hirschsprung’s disease and medical ethics; she has authored 90 peer-reviewed publications and 18 book chapters, and is co-editor of Reoperative Pediatric Surgery, published in 2007. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and in 2006 she was recognized by the Columbus YWCA as a Woman of Achievement.
