Genesis Heart Surgeon
Dr. Nicholas Augelli joined Genesis Cardiac Surgeons in August 2004. Born in Bari, Italy, he grew up in Niles, Illinois, and attended undergraduate school at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his surgical residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, in 1989 and served a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, from 1989-1992. Dr. Augelli practiced at the University of Wisconsin from 1993-2004 as part of the clinical division based at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dr. Augelli is board certified in Surgery and Thoracic Surgery and performs many types of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries including, but not limited to: coronary artery bypass surgery; valve surgery, repair and replace; cancer surgery of the lungs, esophagus, and trachea; aneurysm surgery of the aortic & abdominal aorta; peripheral vascular surgery; dialysis access, and modified maze procedure for treatment of atrial fibrillation.
Dr. Augelli is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and in the American College of Chest Physicians. He also is a member of the Scott County Medical Society and the Genesis Heart Institute.
