The inauguration of a state of the art, fully integrated neurosurgical operating room at UPMC Presbyterian, represents another first in the application of modern technologies to assist brain and spine surgery.
This new hybrid surgical suite represents a fusion of multiple technologies designed to improve outcomes and reduce risks of brain and spinal surgery. In addition to a GE 64 slice scanner, our team has integrated other image guided technologies with endoscopic assisted microsurgery tools as well as utilizing full HD technology. Using these combined technologies, neurosurgical teams can accurately reach the depths of the brain and spine and remove lesions through small conduits and small surgical approaches. Intraoperative endoscopy and imaging improve the ability to resect safely lesions in very delicate places.
Intraoperative imaging has been used for thousands of cases at UPMC since 1981. This new surgical suite represents the future of neurosurgery brought to the present day.
