Laparoscopic Assisted Hysterectomy and Colon Resection
The case will be a combined colorectal and gynecologic procedure for adhesions and endometriosis. Doctors Steven D. McCarus and Jay A. Redan will perform the surgery. Dr. McCarus is Chief of Gynecologic Surgery and Director for the Center of Pelvic Health, Celebration Health.

The case is a 40 year old female with life altering pelvic and abdominal pain associated with endometriosis. The procedure is a laparoscopic supra cervical hysterectomy with BSO with possible colon resection resulting from stage 4 pelvic endometriosis. Doctors Steven D. McCarus and Jay A. Redan will perform the surgery. The combined colorectal and gynecological procedure demonstrates the patient advantages for a team approach to provide a one step surgical cure for the disease.
The patient history includes the following:
- 40 W/F;
- Chronic pelvic pain;
- (2) previous pelvic laparoscopies;
- Dyspareunea (painful intercourse);
- Dysmenorrhea (painful periods); and
- Nuliparus uterus (no children).
