Proctocolectomy: On July 24, 2007, at 6:00 pm EDT join surgeons Cary Lofton Gentry, MD and Sean O'Donovan, MD in a live Internet presentation of the technical aspects of an open total proctocolectomy and total mesorectal excision using Harmonic™ technology.
Drs. Gentry and O'Donovan will present the case of a 79 year old female with a synchronous hepatic flexure cancer and mid to upper rectal cancer. In addition to the cancer, the patient had more than eight serrated adenomas polyps throughout the colon. After clinical and genetic consultation, the patient underwent an open total proctocolectomy with end ileostomy. The hour long program will involve a discussion of the implications of multiple colon and rectal cancers, as well as the recent pathological designation of serrated adenoma.
The July 24 live Internet broadcast will originate from Retreat Hospital in Richmond, VA. During the program viewers may email questions directly to the surgeons, which will provide for a dynamic clinical interchange between the audience and presenters.
This presentation may include demonstration of the use of surgical devices; it is not intended to be used as a surgical training guide. Other surgeons may employ different techniques. Individual surgeon preference and experience, as well as patient needs, should always dictate variation in procedure steps. Before using any medical device, including those demonstrated or referenced in this presentation, review all relevant package inserts, with particular attention to the indications, contraindications, warnings and precautions, and steps for use of the device. This presentation is the work of the author and may not necessarily reflect the views of Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc.
