During this live webcast from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Jack Jallo and Dr. Alex Vaccaro will present on their clinical results using the first FDA-approved spine sealant system — DuraSeal™ spine sealant.

Dr. Jallo is a prolific writer and lecturer on the topics of traumatic brain injury, closed head injuries, spinal cord injuries, and surgical guidelines and techniques, among many other specialized topics. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine and has been listed in Best Doctors in America since 2003.
Dr. Vaccaro specializes in the comprehensive treatment of many pathologic conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spines. He is an avid writer and lecturer on these and other topics, and his visiting professorships and scientific and abstract presentations, conducted worldwide, are equally prolific. In 2009, Dr. Vaccaro was elected the 17th President of the American Spinal Injury Association, and is a longtime member of the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and many other U.S.- and internationally-based societies.
In the United States, the DuraSeal™ spine sealant system has PMA approval and is indicated for use as an adjunct to sutured dural repair during spinal surgery to provide watertight closure. It is contraindicated for application to confined bony structures where nerves are present, since neural compression may result due to hydrogel swelling. The hydrogel may swell up to 50% of its size in any dimension. In a clinical study of 158 randomized subjects, 100% of the subjects treated with DuraSeal™ spine sealant displayed watertight closure after assigned treatment, compared to 64.3% of subjects treated with Standard of Care methods. The incidence of post-operative CSF leaks was comparable between the two treatment groups. The number and types of adverse events observed in both groups were anticipated given the medical conditions of the enrolled subjects and the nature of the complex neurosurgical procedures performed.
